“For channel partners, the case brings up questions around getting involved in testing procedures, which Larry Walsh, CEO and chief analyst at The 2112 Group, says solution providers may want to stay clear from.

“The CrowdStrike situation with NSS exposes a risk for partners,” he told Channelnomics. “Vendors have products tested for validation and marketing purposes. Partners and resellers should stay out of that process to avoid getting embroiled in disputes. Involvement without vendor consent puts partners at risk of having the supplier relationship damaged and their reputation tainted. ”

He added that the case raises questions around contractual obligations as well.

“What liability does a partner have when supplying licenses to a testing firm without vendor authorization? Is there a breach of confidentiality? I believe this is the issue that will come from this situation,” Walsh said.”
