Autonomous Network

A network that can run with little to no human intervention – independently configuring, monitoring, and maintaining itself – thanks to technologies such as AI, analytics, machine learning, and telemetry. Ciena, a network strategy and technology company based in Hanover, Md., espouses what it considers a more holistic, less rigid version of the autonomous network – the adaptive network – which is designed to adapt and grow with a company as its goals and needs evolve. Adaptive networks consist of three elements, or layers: analytics and intelligence; a programmable infrastructure; and software control and automation.
